Janathon began today, and I ran 3.23 miles on a cold, overcast, snowy day.
After my son and I went to Mass (today is a holyday of obligation), our family had breakfast burritos and Bohemian squares (a holiday tradition) then watched the end of the Tournament of Roses parade (a New Year’s Day tradition). Then after watching what seemed like an eternal pregame show for the NHL’s Winter Classic, I decided it was time to go for a run.
Normally, the wind this time of year blows out of the west, so I started my run heading west. I went along the Rivergreenway to point where the trail is closed because of flooding last week. I doubt that that stretch of trail is still under water, but I turned there and made an adjustment in my route. I also discovered that the wind was coming out of the east. Ugh. I crossed the river and headed into downtown. I wended my way through downtown, turned east, crossed a different bridge and began the route home.
I could hear my cellphone chirping because of a low battery. When I got to end of the run I discovered that my watch had reset itself, and the stopwatch said I ran 00:00. Ugh.
Anyhoo I got home OK. I’m warm, and I have no idea what is happening in the hockey game 2 hours later. As far as I know, the pregame show is still on.
So, Janathon Day 1: 3.23-mile run.
